We love our Dexters! This is a fantastic breed of cattle, originating in Ireland. Like all of our animals, we chose this breed specifically for their wonderful characteristics. In particular, they are very docile and friendly. They loooove to eat treats and have their chins scratched. They are a small breed with fabulous meat and milk. Currently we have two cows, each with a calf. Maureen is our dun cow (brown) and she is 3 years old. She just delivered her second calf, a little black heifer, this past February! Little Enola will have to make her debut in a blog post. Shauna, 2 years, is our black cow. She has her black steer calf, Sherlock, with her. He will be grown out about 26 months and then become beef for our family. The cows and heifers will remain on our farm in training as family milk cows.
