Life is Precious

Life is precious. Life has value and purpose. Life is beautiful, amazing, spectacular, and miraculous.

Life is fragile. Life is brutal, challenging, and painful.

We struggle for life, human life and animal life.

Today, we are super excited and drained to welcome the first ducks that have been both laid and hatched on our farm! The first hatchling (shown with its egg in the one photo, on the right in the other photo) was 24 hours premature. It’s normally a 50 hour hatch process. This one however punctured the wrong side of the egg, missing the critical air sack inside that was intended to give him an extra 24 hours to grow and develop. Carrie carefully tended him all day, working to help without separating his lifeline to the egg membrane. I know it sounds silly- but this is life, and the first duck for our farm. And then, finally he broke free. And rested for hours until he popped up and hopped around waiting for his sibling to join him. Both hatchlings are now doing great!

The fun doesn’t stop there. We’re also tending a bottle fed ram inside. And... my work-from-home kitty just had her litter of 5 kittens. Not to mention four more pregnant ewes :) So-hopefully more photos to come this weekend!
